John W. Owens, 90, a resident of Centerville and former resident of DeLeon, TX died Sunday, November 6 at Franklin Foundation Hospital. He was born in Duster, TX on Dec. 13, 1925.
He is survived by his children, Joyce Byrd of Kingwood, TX, Pamela Naquin and husband Glenn of Baldwin, Diana Morrison and husband Johnny of Texarkana, TX; John Owens II and wife Julie of Centerville; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one sister June Voorhies of Andrews, TX
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clista Ownes, his parents; his parents Theodore and Maggie Owens; his brothers Albert and Theodore Owens; his sisters Thelma Owens, Winnie Voorhies and Vera Spruill.
He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to fish and garden. He was an avid coin collector and loved his church family and serving his church. He worked at Cabot Corporation for 37 years.
Memorial service will be at Calumet Baptist Church on Wed., Nov. 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitations will be at Nowlins Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 11. Visitations will resume on Sat., Nov. 12 at First Baptist Church in DeLeon, TX from 8 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m.
