Joyce Marie Bergeron Buford, 89, a resident of Morgan City, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Morgan City Healthcare Center.

Joyce was born on December 26, 1926 in Morgan City the daughter of Oliver Bergeron Sr. and Elizabeth Rentrop Bergeron.

Joyce was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters and St. Mary Genealogy Society. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She was one of the first charter members of the St. Mary AARP. She was an early member of the Desk and Derrick Club Club of Morgan City.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three brothers, Anthony R. Bergeron and wife Patricia of Gretna, Patrick J. Bergeron of Morgan City, Edwin J. Bergeron of Morgan City; one sister, Joan Marie Michel and husband Calvin of Kaplan; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Bergeron Sr. and Elizabeth Rentrop Bergeron; husband, Gerald Buford; five brothers, Oliver Bergeron Jr., Laurie Bergeron, Sheldon Bergeron, Robert Bergeron and Jason Bergeron; two sisters, Elizabeth Bergquist and Catherine Kidd.

The family would like to thank Mr. Joyce’s caretakers who took great care of her for nine years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Greg Fratt celebrating, with a visitation being held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Following Mass Joyce will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Holy Cross Catholic Church or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

LODGER JOSEPH SEGURA

Lodger J. Segura, a native of Erath and longtime resident of Franklin, passed away at the age of 80, on Saturday, at 11:47 a.m., at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
L.J. was born April 25, 1936 to the late Leby Segura and the late Adia Duplantis Segura in Erath, LA. He joined the Marine Corp in June 1954 and was honorably discharged in April 1958 He married later that year and moved to Franklin in 1964 while working at Pelican Creamery. He then became employed by the United States Postal Service in Franklin until his retirement.
L.J. was a co-founder, along with his wife, of the Krewe of Agmarol in Franklin, a member of the American Legion, and served 4 years as a Franklin City Councilman. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
L.J. was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and a loyal friend. His hobbies included gardening, visiting family and friends and caring for his wife when she became ill.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Conner Segura, his daughter (and caregiver) Tammy Segura Himel and her husband, Warren (Butch); one granddaughter, Alice Himel, all of Franklin; two grandsons, Adam Himel and his wife, Kristen of Erath; and Ben Himel and his wife, Cindy of Carencro; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Randall Segura and his wife, Jo, of Texas; and Robert Segura and his wife, Lona, of Abbeville; one sister, Mary Dale Segura Dronet and her husband, Rudy, of Erath; his fur baby, Taylor; his oldest and dearest friend, Irvin Sonnier; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to family friend and caregiver, Keely Mayer, Heart of Hospice and Dr. Roland Degeyter for the care provided.
Private services will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to make contributions in L.J’s name may do so to either the Wounded Warrior Project or to Marines Helping Marines.

Audrey Ann Cortez Lewis, 72, a native of Thibodaux and a resident of Morgan City, died Monday, May 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
Audrey was born June 22, 1943, to Vincent Paul and Bertha Bridget “Bea” Ledet Cortez in Thibodaux. She attended Mt. Carmel Academy and Nicholls State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1965.
She taught Speech and English at Morgan City High School, Franklin Junior High School and Central Catholic High School before retiring “to become a full-time Granny.”
Audrey is survived by her daughter, Jean McCorkle of Berwick; and her two grandchildren, Tiffani McCorkle of Morgan City and John McCorkle of Berwick.
Although three survive Audrey biologically, so many more were touched by her legacy.
She directed plays for Children’s Theatre for 20 years, having served as a founding board member and volunteered for Children’s Church at Holy Cross Catholic Church. She also served as a Girl Scouts leader for her daughter’s troop.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jerry Cortez and Stephen Cortez.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at St. Joseph Co-Cathedral in Thibodaux. She will be buried with her parents at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Children’s Theatre of Morgan City, P.O. Box 826, Morgan City, LA 70381. Please note a memorial donation in her name on checks.

L. L. ‘LOOPY’ LANGSTON

L. L. “Loopy” Langston, a native of Pollock, LA and a longtime resident of Franklin, passed away at his home at the age of 82 on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 following a brief illness.
Loopy was a 1953 graduate of Pollock High School and went on to Northwestern State University to receive a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. He was drafted in the 1957 NBA Draft to the St. Louis Hawks but declined to marry the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Motter. They moved to Franklin in 1962 and he began teaching in the St. Mary Parish School system, mostly at LaGrange Elementary School in Franklin.
Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Langston Mason and her husband, Anthony of Prairieville; two granddaughters, Courtney Claire Mason and Mackenzie Kate Mason, both of Prairieville; his sisters, Bobbye White and her husband, Alex of Alexandria; Carolyn Bozarth and her husband, Joe of Conroe, TX; and Louise Guillot and her husband, Ray of West Monroe; and his brother-in-law, John Motter and his wife, Mary Ann of Campti.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Ruth Motter Langston; his parents, Charles Edward Langston and Gertrude Deville Langston; and his sister, Ruth Robertson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, May 4, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin from 5 p.m. until time of service, which will begin at 8 p.m. On Thursday, May 5, graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. in the Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Pineville, LA. The Rev. Sue Pugh will officiate the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Naquin, Al Kuhlman, Dalton Simoneaux, Ricky Guillot, Kenneth Guillot and Kendall Guillot. Honorary pallbearer will be Dale Robicheaux.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Shannon LeBlanc, Sherry Carter, LaTonga Elliot, Denise White, Terrenisha Carter, Mariah Johnson and Alison Madinson, as well as the staff of St. Joseph Hospice.

Samuel “Sammie” Foster, 87, a resident of Orange, TX and native of Franklin, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 11:35 a.m., at the Silsbee Convalescent Center in Silsbee, TX.
Visitation will be observed Thursday, May 5, from 1 p.m. until funeral services at 2 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
Memories of “Sammie,” as he was known to many, will forever remain in the hearts of his nieces and nephews, cousins, caretakers, the members of the St. Paul C.M.E. Church of Orange, TX; the staff and residents of the Silsbee Convalescent Home and a host of other relatives and friends.

MILDRED GUIDRY PLATTSMIER

Mildred Guidry Plattsmier of Baton Rouge, died May 3, 2016, at the age of 94. Born March 10, 1922, she grew up in Ridge, and was a graduate of Indian Bayou High School.
Mildred met and married her husband, Bennett Bernard Plattsmier, in Rayne, and they had two children, a daughter Susan Marie Plattsmier Carbo and a son, Charles “Chuck” Bennett Plattsmier. In 1955, they moved to Patterson, where they resided for over 40 years. Mildred was a devout Catholic and was active in St. Joseph Catholic Church, teaching elementary catechism, guiding adults in their journey through RCIA as they joined the Catholic faith, and worked with the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. A “stay at home mom” her entire married life, her husband and children were her life, never wavering in her love, devotion and support of each of them. She was an accomplished seamstress, cake baker and decorator, and used her artistic talents in creating beautiful porcelain dolls and other items.
She is survived by her sister, Gerelda Champagne, and two brothers, Harvey Mouton and wife, Shelva Dean, and Patrick Mouton and wife, Pam. She is also survived by her daughter, Susan Plattsmier Carbo and her husband, Harold; her son, Charles Plattsmier and his wife, Sally Achord Plattsmier; five grandchildren, Brett Carbo and wife, Leanna, Stephanie Carbo Schiller and husband, Andrew, Brad Carbo and wife, Heidi, Joanna Plattsmier, and Christopher Plattsmier; and six great-grandchildren, Kristin Carbo, Andrea Carbo, Breanna Carbo, Olivia Schiller, Bradley Carbo and Josephine Carbo.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Bennett; her father, Henri Guidry; her mother, Elzia Hanks Guidry Mouton; her stepfather, Sidney Mouton; and an infant son, Patrick Joseph.
Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson Friday, May 6, 2016, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with the start of the Catholic Rite of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Patterson where family and friends will celebrate her life. Interment will follow immediately at the St. Mary Memorial Park in Patterson.
The family wants to express our heartfelt thanks to the sitters, Kathy, Rachelle, LaTonya, Chantel and Mattie, who have been with us on this journey for the last six years, for their loving care and devotion to our mother. We also want to thank Hospice In His Care for their guidance and care during the past year.

Victor “Captain Vic” Joseph Gaudet, 88, a resident of Amelia, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Vic was born June 10, 1927, in Napoleonville, the son of Felix Gaudet Sr. and Rosalie Fryou Gaudet.
Vic was one who loved to be in the outdoors on the boat navigating the waterways. His love of the outdoors and fishing and shrimping led him to being a commercial fisherman for many years.
He was a master carpenter who could build anything and loved building various projects for his family. He was the most faithful and loving husband and the kindest and gentlest father that anyone could ask for.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Bailey Gaudet of Amelia; five children, Newton “Bobby” Gaudet of Amelia, Eldridge “Cookie” Gaudet and wife Stephanie of Bayou Black, Ashley “Bo” Gaudet of Amelia, Marlene Melton and husband Hank of Houma, and Carol Doucet and husband Troy of Patterson; nine grandchildren, Victor Gaudet II, Amanda Gaudet, Casandra Wesley, Dawn Vidrine, Heather Guidry, Jared Lamb, Alayna Portier, Hope Vaughn, and Ashley Gaudet Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Louis Gaudet and wife Stella of Bayou L’Ourse; and one sister, Loraine Aucoin of Baton Rouge.
Vic was preceded in death by five brothers, John Gaudet, Gilday Gaudet, Hembley Gaudet, Eros Gaudet and Felix Gaudet Jr.; and one sister, Christine Verret.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Friday, May 6, 2016, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with a visitation being held from 9 a.m. until Mass time. Following Mass, Vic will be laid to rest in the St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery.

Donald Adam Justilian, 70, a resident of Morgan City, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Teche Regional Medical Center.
Donald was born May 10, 1945, in Morgan City, the son of Vernon Justilian and Mildred Pennison Justilian.
Donald enjoyed being in the outdoors and could often times be found hunting, fishing, frogging, trapping and tending to his rose garden. He was a master mechanic who could fix anything. He was a good son, faithful husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. Fish on!
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty Jane Gros Justilian of Morgan City; one son, Brian Justilian of Morgan City; one daughter, Rhonda McGlothin of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Trey McGlothin and Brant Justilian; two brothers, Ronald Justilian and wife, Jeanie, of Pierre Part, and V.J. Justilian and wife, Verna, of Bayou L’Ourse; and one sister, Carolyn Borne and husband, Richard, of Labadieville.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mildred Pennison Justilian; and one brother, Clarence Justilian.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home with Monsignor J. Douglas Courville officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home with the visitation resuming from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Following the services, Donald will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Services for Yolanda Brown have been scheduled for 3 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Rhema Bible Church, SDC-1 Building in Broken Arrow, OK. Burial will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home, Broken Arrow. The family will greet friends on Friday, May 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Yolanda Marie Brown was born in New Orleans on Saturday, July 1, 1961, the daughter of Clifton Davison and Gloria Gibson. Yolanda passed away in Tulsa, OK on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She was 54 years of age.
Yolanda grew up in Four Corners. She was raised in St. John’s Baptist Church and baptized by the Rev. Aaron Marks. She was a 1979 graduate of Franklin Senior High School.
Yolanda was attending Louisiana State University when she met Larence “Larry” Brown. On December 17, 1983, in the very same Baptist church where Yolanda Was baptized, she married the love of her life, Larry. Yolanda graduated from Rhema Bible College in 1991. She was a homemaker, but also worked as Department Head in Jewelry for some time. Yolanda was a wonderful wife, a loving mother to Loren Renee Brown, Loriel Nicole Brown and Larissa Lynette Brown; a caring grandmother to Kaibre Tray Harris and Kaden Dean Brewer; and an aunt to Barron Lionel Davison whom she helped raise.
Yolanda is survived by her husband, Larry Brown of Broken Arrow, OK; daughters, Loren Renee Brown of Broken Arrow, OK, Loriel Nicole Brown of Broken Arrow, OK; and Larissa Lynette Brown of Thailand; grandchildren, Kaibre Harris and Kaden Brewer; her mother, Gloria Gibson; siblings, Barry Neal Davison of Baton Rouge, Barron Keith Davison of Four Corners, Shawn Davison of Lydia, Greg Davison of Baton Rouge and Gena Davison of Lydia; nephews, Barron Davison and wife, Lawanda, of Broken Arrow, OK and Ronald Courtney DeRousselle of Louisiana; great nephew, Barron Jr.; and other loving family and friends.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her father, Clifton, and niece, Porsha Jackson.

Jules Joseph Daigle Sr.

November 19, 1931-May 5, 2016
Jules Joseph Daigle Sr., a native of 4 Mile Bayou and a longtime resident of Pierre Part, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Morgan City Health Care Center at the age of 84.
Back in Jules’ younger years, he owned a bar in Stephensville called The Ponderosa, there he met many lifetime friends. A dedicated fisherman, Jules adored spending time out on the water of our many bayous and rivers. Jules’ memory will be forever etched into the hearts of those who knew him best.
Those left to cherish Jules’ memory are his wife, Mary “Poochie” Daigle; his six sons, Jules “Jr. Boy” Joseph Daigle Jr. and his wife, Stella, of Houma, Ralph Daigle and his wife, Mona, of Lafayette, David Joseph Daigle of Pierre Part, Albert Joseph Daigle and his wife, Bobbie Jean, of Houma, Joseph “Joe” Daigle and his wife, Jodi, of Bayou Vista and Sidney “P-Nut” Paul Daigle and his wife, Evangeline, of Butte LaRose; one “adopted” daughter, Sandy King of Gonzales; one brother, Stanley Daigle and his wife, Betty, of Belle River; one sister, Shirley Arceneaux and her husband, Kenneth, of Morgan City; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Louisiana Gros Daigle; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests that visitation be observed Monday, May 9, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home and again on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, from 9 a.m. until time of services at Hargrave Funeral Home. Jules will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery following services.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Morgan City Health Care Center, Hospice of South Louisiana, and any and all of the family friends who assisted in Jules’ care during his illness.

Robert Morrison

Robert Morrison, 69, a native of Morgan City, Louisiana, and longtime resident of Santa Barbara, California, died Monday, April 25, 2016.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Morrison of New Orleans and Rebecca Morrison of Seattle; two sons, Robert Morrison Jr. of New Orleans and Daniel Morrison of Los Angeles; three sisters, Pastor Evelyn Sears of Patterson, and Aljosie Harding and Arthur Marie Pratt, both of Morgan City; two brothers, James Morrison Jr. and Thomas Morrison, both of Patterson; his parents, Mary and James Morrison Sr.; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Miracle Revival Center, 1200 Saturn Road in Bayou Vista at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14.

Joseph Daniel “Joey” Judd, 18, a resident of Alexandria, Louisiana, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016.
Joey was born on Aug. 1, 1997, in Morgan City, the son of Fredrick “Fred” Judd and Rebecca Ferguson Judd.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his father, Fred Judd and wife, Donna, of Abbeville; his mother, Rebecca Ferguson Judd and fiancé, Michael King, of Bayou Vista; two brothers, Nicholas Judd of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, and Freddie Judd of Abbeville; paternal grandmother, Theresa Daughtery of Patterson; maternal grandfather, Danny Ferguson and wife, Sue, of Brookhaven, Mississippi; maternal grandmother, Karen Nettles and husband, Greg, of Brookhaven, Mississippi; godmother, Betty Franklin of St. Amant; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joey was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David Daughtery.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home with Monsignor J. Douglas Courville officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home with the visitation resuming from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Following the service Joey will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery.

Dillard Joseph Deshotels, 85, a resident of Morgan City, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, at his home.
Dillard was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Evangeline Parish, the son of Isom Deshotels and Feloman Fontenot.
Dillard enjoyed being in the outdoors tending to his garden. He was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and loved watching all the games. Not only did he love watching the Saints play, he also enjoyed watching old westerns with Gun Smoke being his favorite. He loved a good home-cooked meal and always loved spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by three children, Lee Deshotels of Morgan City, and Arlene Martin and Linda Deshotels, both of Bushnell, Florida; five grandchildren, Brandy Deshotels, Chasity Maeser, Cameron Martin, Ricky Martin and Tyler Lane; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Terrel Deshotels of Opelousas; and one sister, Bernella Deshotels Meche of Mamou.
Dillard was preceded in death by his parents, Isom Deshotels and Feloman Fontenot; wife, Hilda Zikes Deshotels; one son, Ricky Deshotels; and two brothers, Varance Lee Deshotels and Atney Deshotels.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home with Father J. Douglas Courville officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Twin City Funeral Home with the visitation resuming Thursday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Following the services, Dillard will be laid to rest with military honors in the Morgan City Cemetery with the honors being rendered by the East St. Mary Veteran’s Funeral Squad.

Mattie Elizabeth Palmer, 100, a resident of Morgan City and native of Donaldsonville, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 3:42 a.m., at her residence.
Visitation will be observed on Friday, May 13, at Jones Funeral Home in Morgan City, from 9 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. Dr. C. F. Smith will officiate. Burial will follow services in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Mrs. Palmer was one of the oldest citizens in Morgan City.
Memories of this centenarian will forever remain in the hearts of her three daughters, Mrs. Herman (Brenda) Murray of Patterson, and Nancy Campbell and Mrs. Terry (Sharon) Dardar, both of Morgan City; eight stepchildren, who called her ‘Montay”, Ronald Campbell and Raymond Campbell, both of Morgan City, Glen Campbell of Boston, MA, Henry Campbell and Levi Campbell, both of Franklin, and Craig Hall of New York; Wanda Lowery of Morgan City and Carol Newmeister of Lafayette; 11 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, five children, two grandchildren and one brother.
