Dorothy Mae Lange Newman, a native and longtime resident of Charenton, and former resident of Pearl River and New Orleans, passed away at the age of 94 early Sunday morning, April 24, 2016. At the time of her passing, Ms. Dorothy was the oldest member of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana.
Survivors include her son, Joseph Robert Newman and his wife, Carla; three granddaughters, Tabitha Turner, Brandi Beck and Ashlee Hebert; seven great grandchildren, Katelyn, Kimberly, Bethany, Cody, Karli, Bailey and Madison; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Charles Newman Sr.; her son, Herman Charles Newman Jr. and his wife, June; her grandsons, Erie Paul Newman and Steven Charles Newman; her sister, Hazel Lange Smith; her brother, George Lange; and her parents, Joseph Adam Lange and Eugenie Rodriguez Lange.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, April 28, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin from 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. Father Cedric Sonnier will conduct the service. She will be laid to rest in Pearl River in Hickory Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Kitchen, Randy Hebert, Bailey Hebert, Sam Vidallier, Bryant Collins and Tim Turner.
